WOCMES Seville 2018 will take place in University of Seville.
C/ San Fernando, nº 4. C.P 41004. Seville.
The building that now houses the Rectorate of the University of Seville will host the conferences, presentations, symposiums and other academic sessions of WOCMES 2018 Seville, as well as the Book Fair, which will take place in the Pier Paolo Pasolini Space.
The Congress’s nerve centre will thus be located in the historic centre of Seville, in one of the city’s most emblematic buildings. The former Royal Tobacco Factory was built in the 18th century and was soon considered one of the most important industrial buildings in Europe, due to both its size and its architecture, with Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical influences.
Among its most well-known features are the main gate over which stands the statue of Fame, the University Chapel, its two interior courtyards and the stairway leading to the main auditorium.
The Organizers: Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation
The Hassan II Pavilion was conceived as the Moroccan Pavilion for the 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville and is currently the headquarters of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation. It will also be the site of various cultural events during WOCMES 2018.
It could not be otherwise given that the Foundation is organising this event. But the building’s architecture is also significant and will enrich any of the activities it hosts. In Expo’92 it was considered one of the most beautiful pavilions built for that occasion. It was so designed by the well-known French architect Michel Pinseau and includes the work of dozens of Moroccan artisans.
As a result of that effort, its walls display true works of art in plasterwork, mosaics and carved wood which still captivate visitors to the building now housing the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation.
